Stalin accuses CM of punishing people for the sake of Jayalalithaa

May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:29 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Saturday asked Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam to declare whether his duty and loyalty were towards the people of Tamil Nadu or to his “convicted leader.”

In a open letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Stalin said governance in the State had plummeted, while Ministers were carrying milk pots, performing poojas and walking on fire, praying for the release of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and not even spending a fraction of their time for the State’s welfare.

“You cannot punish Tamil Nadu because your leader has been punished for corruption. The future and livelihood of seven crore people living in our State are in extreme danger because you and your party are not interested in the welfare of our State. Have you and your ministerial colleagues no sense of responsibility,” he asked.

Mr. Stalin said Tamil Nadu was in the ICU and its vital signs were a cause for extreme concern and from being one of the top three investment destinations in India it had become one of the top three States from which companies were running away in desperation.

“The much-hyped Global Investors Meet has been postponed twice because this State does not have the ‘right’ Chief Minister to meet the delegates. Your government has totally disregarded the future of our youth; you are in the process of destroying the dreams of millions of young people,” he alleged.

Mr. Stalin said even though the AIADMK government had made a lot of announcements, they remained only on paper. “There have been no major infrastructure projects. Crime has increased to frightening levels in the last four years, especially crimes against women and children. Electricity shortage has reached unmanageable levels and corruption is rampant,” he said.

In Tamil Nadu the only government organisation that was registering phenomenal growth and contributing almost 30% of the government’s revenue was TASMAC.
