Sri City, an integrated business city consisting of a special economic zone, domestic tariff zone and free trade warehousing zone, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Sankara Nethralaya to establish an eye hospital and a research facility inside Sri City.

Sri City Sankara Nethralaya as it would be called will function in the next three months by having a 20 bed hospital and an operation theatre. Sri City Sankara Nethralaya will build a full-fledged eye hospital spread over 10 acres within the next three years.

“We are happy to be associated with Sri City today. We intend to set up the hospital and ensure that quality and affordable eye care services are provided to the poor and needy. As the construction of hospital is expected to be complete within a period of three years, any complicated surgeries that require post-surgery backup can be offered by Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, till then,” said S.S. Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya. With the launch of the hospital in Sri City, the local people who seek treatment need not travel till Chennai. They will have access for quality care near their doorstep. “There was a need for an eye hospital in this region and with the entry of Sankara Nethralaya this vacuum has been filled. We thank S. S. Badrinath, the key architect behind Sankara Nethralaya to make this happen,” said Ravindra Sannareddy, MD, Sri City.
