Sonia Gandhi unveils Karunanidhi statue at DMK headquarters

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Sunday unveiled a life-size bronze statue of late Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M. Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters in Chennai.

The eight-foot statue has been installed beside the statue of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai on the premises. DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the leaders on the dais.

The occasion also witnessed the coming together of political leaders who are opposed to the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy were among those who participated.

After the function, the leaders paid their respects at Karunanidhi’s mausoleum at the Marina. They are scheduled to address a public meeting later in the day.
