Signboard at intersection leaves motorists flummoxed

It has resulted in many traffic violations at Mandaveli-R.A. Puram junction

A signboard ideally helps people on the road. However, there are always exceptions.

Motorists negotiating the intersection of Venkata Krishna Road, Devanathan Street and Thiruvengadam Street at Mandaveli - R.A. Puram are confused about which direction to take on their way to Mylapore.

A signboard at the intersection is placed in a such a way that motorists from Thiruvengadam Street are asked to turn left at the intersection and proceed towards Jeth Nagar First Main Road and Third Cross Street, to enter Devanathan Street.

Similarly, motorists from Boat Club and R. A. Puram proceed in the wrong direction on Venkata Krishna Road to go towards Mandaveli.

As per the traffic rules and regulations, motorists from Thiruvengadam Street can proceed through the intersection to go to Devanathan Street. The motorists do not have to go through Jeth Nagar.

Motorists from Boat Club and R. A. Puram, to go to Mandaveli, have to go through Devanathan Street, St. Mary’s Road and Ramakrishna Math Road.

“The signboard at the intersection is placed in a such a way that it denotes motorists from Boat Club and Thiruvengadam Street cannot enter Devanathan Street,” said M. Meena Muralidharan, a resident of R. A. Puram.

As a result, motorists drive and ride in the wrong direction on Venkata Krishna Road, increasing the risk of accidents with their counterparts coming in the opposite direction.

Accidents are waiting to happen near the intersection.

Steps must be taken at the earliest to replace the confusing signboard at the intersection, said motorists.
