Shop catches fire

The stall was shut down for over a month for overcharging customers.

A closed food and refreshment stall at Chennai Central Railway Station caught fire on Tuesday evening. No passengers were hurt.

According to police, the incident happened on platform 4. The stall, which was shut down for over a month for overcharging passengers, started burning at around 1:20 p.m.

Railway personnel at the station spotted it and alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The RPF personnel doused the flames within 45 minutes using fire extinguishers. it is suspected that the incident could have occurred due to a short circuit. A fridge inside the stall was completely burnt.

Railway officials have asked for a detailed investigation and the case has been handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).
