Rescue operations at Moulivakkam site nearing completion

Death toll stands at 61 and 27 people have been rescued.

Rescue operation at the site of building collapse in Moulivakkam is nearing completion. Death toll has so far risen to 61 and the number of people who have been rescued stands at 27.

Rescue team is currently involved in clearing debris at the house where a portion of the 11-storey building had fallen. Officials said skeletal staff from various departments, including police and health, will remain at the site till 3 p.m. after which the rescue operations will wind up.

A meeting of officials from NDRF, police department, and district administration is underway at the site.
