Says exemption due to State’s unrelenting efforts

Union Minister of State for Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan on Sunday called upon political parties to refrain from indulging in politics over the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) issue as it could spoil the career of students in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing reporters after participating in a two-wheeler rally commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Quit India movement, he appealed to politicians and political outfits not to seek political mileage by playing with the fate of students on the NEET issue.

“Let the politicians and outfits keep themselves out of students’ welfare and their educational career as they have several other avenues for indulging in politics,” he said.

The exemption granted to Tamil Nadu from NEET-based selection is due to the relentless efforts of the State Government, he said.

He also appreciated steps being taken by Tamil Nadu Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan to help students from schools in rural areas face NEET from next year.
