The lack of communication between the Chennai Corporation and other utilities such as Metro water and electricity department in taking up development works could be seen in the drainage construction work being carried out in Velachery.
The residents of VGP Selva Nagar and Bethel Avenue in Velachery have been affected by the digging up of the road for constructing underground sewage systems. Some of the roads in the locality which were not even one year old have been dug up, resulting in waste of public money complained residents.
S. Devarajan, a resident of VGP Selva Nagar East, said the road in First Street was laid only a year ago after a long wait. Now a portion of the road has been dug up by the Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The resident also complained that the road cut does not end with the installation of water pipeline and sewage network, as the roads would be cut for individual connections.

An official of the Chennai Corporation denied any roads less than one year have been dug up in VGP Selva Nagar or Bethel Avenue. An officer of the Metrowater said the infrastructure work was taken up as these areas do not have drainage and piped water facilities.
