The first-ever meet-up of Quora, an online question and answer network that is growing rapidly in popularity, was held at a popular café on the IIT-Madras campus on Sunday.
Volunteers and participants at the meet decided to make it a monthly affair so that it becomes a forum where students and established entrepreneurs can rub shoulders.
The meeting was called for by IIT-Madras freshman student Akhyansh Mohapatra, and curated by one of the city’s active technology entrepreneurs in such fora, Dorai Thodla. Starting next month, the team of Quora volunteers plan to move their meeting to the Startup Centre, a hub for early-stage technology start-ups in Thiruvanmiyur.

“A few students had turned up for the event despite the rains and we had an amazing one-and-a-half-hour freewheeling discussion on entrepreneurship. It was the most enlightening one-and-a-half-hours I have ever had,” Mr. Mohapatra said.
Mr. Thodla said the students who showed up were able to have informal discussions about entrepreneurship over a cup of coffee, which is otherwise not possible in very formal meetings. “They were asking questions like how my family reacted to my decision to become an entrepreneur. The students here are very keen,” he added.
