Despite the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam’s assertion that it would prefer to go it alone this election, sources in the four-party People's Welfare Front (PWF) indicated that the DMDK has opened channels with them.
A leader said while the four parties continued their seat-sharing talks for the second day on Monday, finalisation of the numbers would be put on hold till the DMDK communicates its position.
“We are expecting clarity by Friday. In the meantime, the four existing parties have started identifying the constituencies that each one wants to contest. These talks are important since seat preferences overlap,” said a PWF leader on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, AIADMK sources said four MLAs of the DMDK had approached its leaders to see if they could join the ruling party.
This comes in the wake of DMDK leader Vijayakant ruling out an alliance with the DMK in a public meeting on March 10. Only recently eight DMDK MLAs resigned to join the AIADMK.
Late on Monday, there were reports that a consensus had been reached with the PWF reportedly agreeing to project Mr. Vijayakant as the chief ministerial candidate for the Front. However, a representative of one of the parties in the Front said: “We will consider it if Mr. Vijayakant joins the PWF.”
