Representatives of the Tamil Film Producers Council formally lodged a complaint against theatres that are flouting piracy laws to the Director General of Police on Thursday.

The producers have been seeking stringent action against theatres that do not have enough security measures to stop filming of movies illegally using digital equipment.

S.R. Prabhu, treasurer, Tamil Film Producers Council, said that police should act against the theatres. “Punishing the theatres that are unwilling to stop piracy is the simplest fix to stop pirated content from being shared widely. We want the police to take tough action against theatres,” he said. “We have already identified a list of theatres that have been continuously indulging in piracy,” he added.
