Printing of plastic Aadhaar cards for residents will gain momentum with common service centres commissioned by Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) all set to start operations at zonal offices of Chennai Corporation soon.
Printing of the cards at the 10 city taluk offices started in May. City residents will benefit from the Aadhaar plastic card printers that will be installed at Chennai Corporation offices.
“The paper quality of Aadhaar card is not good. Residents are waiting for printers to be commissioned at Zonal offices to get their Aadhaar plastic identity card,” said Tamil Selvan, a Chennai Corporation councillor in Ambattur zone.

TACTV has installed Aadhaar plastic card printers in all 254 Taluks of Tamil Nadu, officials claimed. Residents with Aadhaar number will be able to walk in and print a plastic card. They will have to pay Rs.30 for a plastic Aadhaar card in case they have received the card already. Personnel at the centres will collect Rs.40 from those who have enrolled but are yet to receive the card.
The Cable TV Corporation has supplied 100 plain cards to common service centres on a pilot basis. Local councillors should request officials on the requirement of more cards if need arises. At least 10 lakh plain cards are likely to reach common service centres of TACTV soon. Even as officials are planning to increase the number of Aadhaar cards, the number of cards issued will depend on the existing printing cassettes and ribbons.
Work that began in the Taluk offices in May has now been completed.

The common service centres in Chennai have received 9,863 applications including those relating to Aadhaar card printing. Common service centres across the State have received 5.82 lakh applications.
