It is more than two months since Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) completed its work on laying water pipes on a two-km stretch (between Ramapuram and Porur) on Mount – Poonamallee Main Road.
The pipes are laid on the lane where traffic moves towards Porur. But, the State Highways department has not relaid that portion of the road yet.
Therefore, motorists are put to a lot of inconvenience. The dug-up soil has been dumped on the footpath and pedestrians have no other option but to walk on the main thoroughfare. In addition, the stretch is frequented by buses of Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

As the road is in a bad shape, it results in traffic chaos during the rush hours.
The pipes are meant to carry water from the Porur lake and other waterbodies from the western outskirts of the city to the overhead tanks and water filing points of the CMWSSB.
The new pipes will cater to the extended areas of the Greater Chennai Corporation: Alandur (Zone – 12), Valasaravakkam (Zone – 11) and Kodambakkam (Zone – 10).

In this regard, a State Highways official says “Steps will be taken up to re-lay the the stretch soon.”
