Poor maintenance of terminus takes a toll on commuters

Commuters are left to suffer as the High Court terminus lacks basic amenities

The High Court bus terminus is in utter neglect, giving road users a back-breaking experience.

The stretch comes under the maintenance of the Greater Chennai Corporation, a Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) official said.

The civic body authorities have failed to take any concrete steps to have the road mended. The surface area of the terminus is uneven and riddled with potholes.

Commuters, especially women and senior citizens, find it difficult to walk on the broken carriageway.

Lighting is another problem at the terminus. There have been incidents of commuters slipping and falling down, while rushing to board the buses, due to lack of illumination in the late evening hours.

The entry point alone has some lighting.

The terminus provides bus services to several locations including Manali, Ennore, Minjur, Karanodai and Vichoor.

“We have complained to the drivers, conductors and officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation and MTC authorities about the lack of maintenance. Despite several representations, our pleas remain unheard,” said a commuter.

The terminus is found wanting in basic amenities too. “I would just call this an open ground instead of a bus terminus. There are no toilets, drinking water, shelter and seating facilities,” said R. Sundar Raman, a commuter and a resident of Ennore. Stray dogs can also be seen loitering in the terminus.
