Poor regulation of traffic near Poonamallee junction has increased the risk quotient for motorists crossing it.
It is reported that on an average, two accidents take place at the intersection every week.
At present, only a few police personnel are deployed in front of the bus terminus at Poonamallee.

According to the police, taking advantage of the traffic congestion, petty thieves strike at the junction. There have been reports of chain-snatching incidents there.
The stretch is narrow near the intersection, adding to the problems of motorists.
Motorists say only removal of encroachments on both sides of the stretch near the Poonamallee bus terminus will solve the problem.

“Appropriate measures will be taken to streamline traffic at the Poonamallee junction,” says a State Highways official.
“As Poonamallee junction is busy round-the-clock, there has been a delay in widening of the stretch,” says S. Karthik, a resident from Poonamallee.
The junction is a key link connecting Mount–Poonamalle High Road with the five-km-long Kundranthur–Poonamalle Main Road, which is maintained by the Sriperambadur sub-division (Chengelpattu division) of the State Highways Department.
With many shops encroaching upon a portion of the junction, the junction has reduced in girth over the last few years. As it does not have adequate lighting facilities, the intersection is more dangerous at night.
The sodium vapour lamps are dim and motorists rely on the headlights of their vehicles to cross this section at night. Stray cattle lying near the junction pose an additional risk to the motorists.
