Policeman dead in road accident

A special sub-inspector attached to the State CBCID died in a road accident in Villivakkam on Tuesday morning, after his two-wheeler was knocked down by a speeding van.

The Thirumangalam traffic investigation police identified the victim as D. Dinakaran (50), a resident of Ambattur, posted at the CBCID office in Egmore.

The accident took place around 9.40 a.m. when the officer was riding to work from home. When he crossed the signal after Nathamuni cinema hall, the van rammed his two-wheeler. He came under the wheels of the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. The officer was rushed to a hospital nearby where doctors pronounced him ‘brought dead.’

The van, driven by Ayyapan (50) of Perungalathur, was heading to T. Nagar after unloading construction material near Avadi. He was arrested by the traffic police and the vehicle was seized.

The body was handed over to the officer’s relatives after post-mortem at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

The officer came under the wheels of a speeding van and suffered severe injuries. He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved
