Police arrest six habitual offenders

They were involved in various thefts

The Kelambakkam police late on Wednesday nabbed six persons for their involvement in various crimes reported in different parts of the city.

Acting on specific information, the police team intensified vehicle checks on Rajiv Gandhi Salai and East Coast Road. During a check near Jothi Nagar, they nabbed Raja from Hyderabad. Based on his confession, the police conducted a raid on a hideout nearby and nabbed Dhanush, Venkatesan, Ganga and Trupthi from Andhra Pradesh and Saranraj from Villivakkam.

The police recovered six motorcycles and ₹25,000 in cash from them. The men were involved in various crimes including burglaries, chain-snatchings and bike thefts. The police are still ascertaining the details of their crimes.

Planned operation

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kotturpuram, K.N. Sudharsan, said the operation was planned and executed over a period of 20 days. The teams scrutinised CCTV footage from various points covering about 43 km and this helped them identify the gang. The police put up barricades in many places along the two roads to prevent vehicle thefts, racing and drunken driving, said an official.
