Pleasant weather to continue

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - CHENNAI

: Clement weather in the city may extend till thisweekend. The Meteorological Department forecasts that overcast sky will keep the day temperature under control for two more days.

However, most parts of Chennai may not be fortunate to receive another spell of rain. On Friday, several areas received rainfall varying between 9 cm to 3 cm in a few hours overnight. Weather stations in Kelambakkam, Ponneri and Ennore received between 9 cm and 7 cm of rainfall during the past 24 hours till Saturday morning.

Convective activity after a few humid days led to the rainfall. An upper air circulation across West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh coast also triggered the showers over the city region, officials of the Met department said.

Dark clouds took over the city’s skyline eclipsing the sun on Saturday and this helped the day temperature to remain at 32.5 degree Celsius, one degree below the average for the month. People hitting the roads for a long trip may want to check the highway forecast of the department that predicts a fairly better temperature level and thundershowers for Chennai, Puducherry and Vellore.

Chennai may have some surprise showers during evening hours till Monday. Officials say with the Northeast monsoon around the corner, more weather systems are expected to brew over the Bay of Bengal as harbingers of the much-expected season.
