Pillion rider killed in accident

A 24-year-old pillion rider was killed and the rider injured when the two-wheeler on which they were travelling hit a wall in Selaiyur in the early hours on Friday.

Police said D. Karthik (25) of Rajaji Nagar was riding the motorcycle with his friend R. Gowtham (24) of Raghavendra Nagar, Madambakkam on the pillion.

At Selaiyur, Karthik reportedly lost control and dashed against the compound wall of a building before landing on the median. Gowtham died on the spot.

Karthik is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

Electrocuted

A contract worker was electrocuted on Thursday when he was installing flag posts for a political party’s rally.

Srinivasan (54) of Vinoba Nagar, East Tambaram, and another worker were digging the road margins when one of the flag posts came into contact with an overhead power cable.

Srinivasan, who was holding the flag post, was electrocuted.   His relatives took the body to his house in East Tambaram and tried to cremate it without informing the police.

However, on Friday morning, a police team went to his house and despite stiff resistance from his relatives, took the body to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet for a post-mortem.
