Over one lakh people visited the four-day Fish Fest that concluded at Island Grounds on Sunday.
Hundreds of visitors to the fest — which was organised by the fisheries department for the first time — took back home ornamental fish and aquarium accessories.
Social welfare minister B. Valarmathi, fisheries minister K.A. Jayapal and Mayor Saidai Duraisamy participated in the closing ceremony and gave away prizes for the best stalls and aquariums.

According to a press release, the most popular stall was that of Fisheries Survey of India which showcased different kinds of marine fish including octopus, pomfret and sword fish each day.
The best marine aquarium prize went to Annamalai University, which had implemented a model where fish would be reared and distributed to self-help groups.
The prize for the best restaurant in the food court went to the Aaliyar unit of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation, which had Kerala specialities including ‘karimeen’.
