Senior officials of the Chennai Corporation headed by Deputy Commissioner (Works) K.S. Kandasamy inspected the Velachery Lake on Monday.

A senior official who was part of the team that visited the lake said the civic body has proposed to remove the construction debris and plastic wastes dumped on the eastern side of the lake. Already the Public Works Department has been regularly clearing the water hyacinths by deploying a floating excavator in the lake, he added.

Also it has been planned to improve the quality of water by roping in experts who will suggest scientific ways of cleaning up a water body that is slowly being choked by sewage, he added.
