Now, a show on Tamil composers

The first two episodes of DD Podhigai's new show, 'Isai Therin Vadam Pithithor', will be about Lalgudi Jayaraman, whose birth anniversary falls on September 17

The contribution of composers such as Oothukadu Venkatakavi, Muthu Tandavar, Arunachala Kavirayar, Gopalakrishna Bharati and Papanasam Sivan, to Carnatic music, is unparalleled.

On Saturday, DD Podhigai channel launched a new series, titled Isai Therin Vadam Pithithor , on Tamil composers of Carnatic music that will be telecast on Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

The 13-part series will also feature Periyasami Thooran, Tanjore Quartet, Suddhananda Bharati, Ambujam Krishna, M.M. Dandapani Desikar, Maarimuthappillai, Ramalinga Swamigal, Arunagirinaathar, Mayuram Viswanatha Sastri, Kavimani Desika Vinayagampillai, Kavichakravarthy Kambar, Kavikunjara Bharathi and Kalki Krishnamurthy.

Conceived and produced by Vasumathi Rajan, the series will feature bytes from scholars, biographers, Sabha secretaries, film producers, descendents of composers and their students.

“The first two episodes are about Lalgudi Jayaraman, whose birth anniversary falls on September 17. He has composed hundreds of thillanas and songs for dance performances. We start with contemporary composers and then move on to the older ones,” says Ms. Rajan.
