New Commissioner of Police takes over

J.K. Tripathy took over as the Commissioner of Police from S. George (left), following EC orders.

Additional Director General of Police J.K. Tripathy took over as the 99th Commissioner of Police of Chennai city on Tuesday morning.

Outgoing commissioner S. George assumed charge as ADGP Tamil Nadu Prison department in the afternoon. The transfers took place following orders of the Election Commission of India on Monday.

Mr. Tripathy arrived at the police commissionerate around 11.15 a.m. and was escorted by additional commissioner (Central Crime Branch) R.S. Nallasivam and joint commissioner (Intelligence) V. Varadaraju to his state-of-the-art chamber on the eighth floor. Mr. George greeted his successor at the chamber, following which the new commissioner assumed charge.

Mr. Tripathy presided a meeting with additional commissioners, joint commissioners and other subordinates later, and received inputs on the present law-and-order situation and preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, sources said.
