New book on best practices in teaching

February 26, 2014 08:44 am | Updated May 18, 2016 11:04 am IST - CHENNAI:

How often have we heard professionals say that something ‘sounds good in theory, but not in practice’?

With the book ‘Innovations in pre-service education and training for English language teachers’, the editors, Julian Edge and Steve Mann, have tried to turn that around.

“Often, people have this idea that the there is a theory that needs to be applied. We’ve heard teachers say that this sounds good in theory but may not work in a classroom. What we are essentially saying is that what is not good in practice is not good in theory as well,” Mr. Edge explained.

The British Council publication, which was launched on Tuesday, is a compendium on best practices from around the world for teacher educators handling trainee English-language teachers.

The book documents practices that have already been implemented.

It has a collection of 14 papers sharing diverse experiences from countries such as Mexico and China.
