The importance of early detection of breast cancer and the necessity to be cautious about food choices to avoid the risk of different type of cancers was stressed during an awareness walkathon organised by the Tamil Nadu government, in association with the NGO Can-Stop on Sunday.
Addressing the media, V. Senthilraj, mission director, National Health Mission, Tamil Nadu, listed initiatives taken by the State government for early detection and efficient treatment of breast cancer. He said mammograms were installed at 25 hospitals across the State.
Apart from this, he said non-communicable diseases clinics, set up at all medical college hospitals, taluk hospitals and even primary health centres could be accessed by women to screen for breast cancers. He said the event, organised as part of the breast cancer awareness month observed internationally, was being conducted successfully for the last 12 years.
