At a national workshop on research methodology at Sri Ramachandra University, Dr.Himangshu Das, Director, National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) said that we should have disability-oriented clinicians and therapists and therefore we should redesign our medical courses and curricula to serve this changing situation.
Disabilities like autism, Attention Deficiency Syndrome, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, etc. need a specialist who has skills in different disciplines. There is also very little research on these disabilities. The Union government and the Rehabilitation Council of India have research-promoting activities, he added. Dr.S.P.Thyagarajan, Dean Research, SRU said research should be targeted and translated into quality healthcare.
