Class X students of CBSE's Chennai Region recorded a splendid performance, clocking a success rate of 99.66 per cent. The board declared the results for students in the Chennai region, which comprises Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. A total of 1,52,024 students appeared for the class X examinations. While 97,259 students had registered for the board-based examination, 54,741 opted for the school-based examination.
“Chennai region has been very consistent in its performance. In fact, there is a marginal increase compared to last year,” CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi told The Hindu , commending Chennai region. However, Mr. Joshi said that the region's relative performance as compared to other regions will be known later this week, around May 24, when the results for other regions are also declared.

In Tamil Nadu, students from as many as 233 schools appeared for the board-based examination across 67 centres. Students' certificate covers their performance in class IX and X, through the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). Both scholastic and co-scholastic areas have been taken into consideration with grades awarded to each subject under the two categories.
School heads said many students had received top grades such as ‘A1' and ‘A' in all the subjects, but they were in the process of collating their schools' overall performance. This is the second batch of students who took the CBSE class X examination after the Ministry of Human Resource Development made it optional. In fact, the board is careful not to use the term “pass percentage”, as it would connote a sense of competition that the Board is trying to do away with at class X. The CBSE does not rank students in class X and XII, either.
