Nearly four years after she, along with her partner, murdered her husband, a 38-year-old woman confessed to her crime on a TV talk show recently, resulting in her arrest on Wednesday. Her partner, who is now an inspector with the State revenue department, was also apprehended by police.
Radhakrishnan (37) was murdered on the afternoon of July 17, 2010, in his house in SIDCO Nagar, Villivakkam. His wife Baby Kala (38) and her partner Gourisankar (33) of Kambar Street, Ambattur, suffocated him by wrapping a polythene bag around his face. The victim was drunk at the time of his death.
“Kala, and Gourisankar, who is a friend of her brother-in-law, had got into a relationship and murdered Radhakrishnan as he was an obstacle. Kala said it was a heart attack and the body was then cremated,” said Kalyana Kumar, inspector, Villivakkam police.

However, there was a rift in the relationship after Gourisankar cleared the TNPSC Group 2 examinations and took charge as revenue inspector at Tiruppattur, Vellore, six months ago. Baby Kala was upset and infuriated after Gourisankar’s marriage to a woman from Ambattur was fixed for May 14.
In an act of vengeance, Baby Kala took part in a talk show on a Tamil television channel on April 17and confessed to have murdered her husband. “Radhakrishnan’s mother Kanchana came to know about Baby Kala’s confession and approached the Villivakkam police. Following this, we registered a case of murder and arrested Kala and Gourisankar early on Wednesday,” the inspector added.
The two were remanded to judicial custody.
