A man riding a scooter died on the spot after he was hit by a government bus on the road overbridge at Irumbuliyur, on Thursday afternoon. This is the second consecutive day with a State government bus being involved in a fatal accident on the Grand Southern Trunk Road near Tambaram. St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation) said the victim’s identity was yet to be established.
The victim, around 25 years old, was riding a Kinetic Honda Scooter, bearing a Salem registration. He was riding towards Chengalpattu, when the bus hit him.
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Villupuram Division) bus was on its way from Tambaram to Kancheepuram. The bus driver Sasikumar (45) was arrested by the police.

The stretch of GST Road between Tambaram and Perungalathur, particularly the leg between Irumbuliyur bus stop and the Peerkankaranai ‘eri karai’ bus stop, is a high risk stretch, the traffic policemen said.
A number of fatal accidents have taken place on the road overbridge at Irumbuliyur. Residents have taken to the streets on more than one occasion, protesting the lack of safety measures on this stretch of GST Road.
Ever since the road overbridge near Vandalur railway station was made operational, all government and private buses from Tambaram and proceeding towards Oragadam, Wallajahbad and Kancheepuram travel on GST Road, preferring to avoid the congested Mudichur Road.

On Wednesday, a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus knocked down an MBA Student in Pallavaram.
