Motorist dies after bike hits tree near Villivakkam in Chennai

The victim was speaking over mobile phone while driving, claim police

A 19-year-old motorist died and two others who were riding pillion with him were injured after the bike in which they were travelling hit a tree at Thathankuppam near Villivakkam during the early hours of Wednesday. The victim, Sakthivel, was speaking over the mobile phone and riding when the accident happened, claim police.

According to police, Sakthivel, working in a fish stall had gone to Kolathur to attend a birthday party along with his friends Yohanan and Surendra. On the way back, all three travelled on the same bike and Sakthivel was riding it.

Around 2 a.m, the victim who was speaking on the phone while riding, lost control of the vehicle and the hit a tree.

All the three fell and Sakthivel who sustained head injuries, died on the spot.

The other two have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

The Villivakkam police have registered a case and are investigating.
