Now that ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ has received a massive release at the Tamil box office, several other films that have been targeting the summer holidays are getting one last crack at the holiday season.
Debutant director 27-year-old Halitha Shameem’s children’s film ‘Poovarasan Pee Pee’ will reach theatres on Friday, with possibly just a week to go before schools reopen. The film’s promos have been promising and the story, which revolves around the ‘summer adventure’ of a group of school students, could easily be the sleeper hit this season.
According to the young director, the story is inspired by her observations of children while growing up in the town of Dharapuram in Karur district.

The film has been shot in Dharapuram and Pollachi, and it is easy to say from the trailer and the teasers that the film’s cinematography, by Manoj Paramahamsa, and music, by Arul Dev, are big draws.
Ms. Shameem is young but has been an assistant to directors Pushkar Gayathri, Mysskin and Samudrakani. There is a strong nativity in the promos and the child artistes seem to have performed well.

After a 33-year break, veteran actor Visu has staged a new play ‘Konjam Yosinga Boss’ produced by Larawins-Lights On.
He staged it in an open-air theatre, set up exclusively for him in Mudichur, last Sunday. He staged the play for Mira Trust’s fundraising efforts for establishing a free dialysis centre in Ambur.
B.Y.M. Sudhakumar, managing director of the trust, said as many as 2,500 persons watched the play that was replete with his trademark humour, and at the same time, conveyed a social message.
“It was a rare opportunity to see a play being staged on an open ground. The Mudichur panchayat helped with the arrangements on short notice,” said Lavanya Ravishankar, daughter of Mr. Visu and director of Larawins-Lights On.
“The play will be staged across the State over the next few months,” she said. Mr. Visu said he was overwhelmed with the attendance the play received.

Little-known British actress Lauren J. Irwin was trending on Twitter in Chennai, a few days ago, after a few tweets about the film she is shooting in Mysore.
Little did she know a photo with ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth would make her an instant celebrity. She posted on Instagram photos from the shooting site of ‘Lingaa’, one of which showed a rather dapper-looking Rajinikanth, in a formal shirt and tie.
In another tweet, she mentioned it was a pity she could not post images of her costumes from the film. ‘Wish I was allowed to post pics of my outfits in this movie... Most amazing period costumes ever!! I wanna live in the old days!!’
The tweet has left a lot of people speculating that some portions of ‘Lingaa’ could be set in the pre-Independence era.
