Mob stones MTC bus

An angry mob threw stones at a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus, damaging its glass doors and window panes, at Camp Road junction on Velachery Main Road on Monday morning.

Police sources said the MTC bus from Karanai to East Tambaram (route no. 51K) was on its way towards Tambaram. When the bus was taking a left turn to enter Velachery Main Road, it collided with an overspeeding sand-laden lorry.

In the impact, Gladstone, a class IX student of C.S.I Corley H.S.S in Tambaram, who was travelling in the MTC bus, sustained bruises on his hand.

Agitated commuters in the MTC bus and motorists near Camp Road bus stop gathered around the MTC bus and threw stones at it, damaging its windshields and window panes. Following the incident, the MTC crew parked the vehicle near Selaiyur police station.

Subsequently, the case was transferred to St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation). Further investigations are on to identify those who pelted stones at the bus. The student is out of danger.
