Metro Rail’s trial run between OTA, Little Mount delayed

September 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Chennai Metro Rail trial run between Little Mount and Officers’ Training Academy is likely to be delayed, according to sources.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), there are still several procedures to be completed before the trial run can begin between these two stations.

“We need to get some permissions before starting the trial run between the Little Mount and Officers’ Training Academy. We are not sure how long this will take. We thought it may be done by the first week of October, but now, there are indications that it will take longer than planned,” an official said.

The track work between these stations was completed sometime ago. The trial run will go on for at least 6 to 8 months before the stretch is thrown open for public use.

Meanwhile, CMRL is simultaneously focussing on completing the work between Chennai airport and Meenambakkam stations too. The State had announced that Chennai Metro Rail work between Chennai airport and Little Mount would be launched by March 2016.

The first stretch of Chennai Metro Rail service — built at a cost of Rs. 14,600 crore — was thrown open for the public only in June this year, after five years of construction.
