Residents discuss civic issues in Vadakkupattu main road, Medavakkam.

The citizens’ forum of Vadakkuppatu Main Road, Medavakkam, under the banner of Vadakkupattu Main Road Civic Exnora held a meeting recently to discuss developments on the whole stretch of Vadakkupattu Main Road and contiguous area. The Vadakkupattu Main Road is a road that connects Velachery-Tambaram Main Road and Medavakkam High Road.

People from in and around Medavakkam area participated in the meeting and discussed issues and grievances. The condition of the Vadakkupattu Road is bad and unmotorable. The road is uneven and does not have a tar topping, making it accident prone. Pedestrians find it difficult to walk during rainy season due to pits and gaping holes.

Snakes are a common sight after dark. While the Chennai Corporation is working towards a cleaner city, the whole stretch is made unhygienic with people using the stretch as public toilet. With insufficient bins, plastic materials are dumped everywhere. People also raised about safety issue as there are no adequate street lights.

The residents demanded that a police outpost be opened in the area to prevent criminal activities as one has to go all the way to Pallikkaranai to register complaints.

They also requested to preserve the Medavakkam lake. They added that if properly nurtured, the lake can become a catchment area and prevent water scarcity in Medavakkam.

The meeting was presided over by R. Govindaraj, joint general secretary, Exnora International.
