₹2 lakh cash, land documents seized

The MKB Nagar police on Saturday arrested a 23-year-old man on the charge of stealing ₹7 lakh cash and about 32 sovereign jewellery from his employer’s house in M.K.B Nagar three months ago.

Raghu, the accused, had been working for five years at a jewellery shop run by Rajendra Kumar of Rajasthan in the Vyasarpadi market under the M.K.B. Nagar police station limits.

Raghu used to do cleaning work and run errands for his boss. “Three months ago, while cleaning the bedroom, he found jewellery and cash hidden in the false ceiling,” said a police officer. He took the valuables home.

“Mr. Kumar had kept the cash and jewellery in the false ceiling and used them during emergency. A few days ago, when he wanted to take the jewellery and cash from the spot, he did not find them,” the officer said. After questioning Raghu, Mr. Kumar lodged a complaint and inspector V. Devendiran investigated the case. “During investigation, it was found that Raghu had purchased 1,500 sq ft. land in Villupuram. He confessed to having stolen the money. We have recovered ₹2 lakh, 32 sovereigns and land documents from him,” the officer said.
