Male commuters in women's coaches fined

“Most offenders are college students, who switch from one compartment to another”

Personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Tambaram have cracked the whip against men, including college students, travelling in women's coaches in suburban electric trains. Fines have been collected from more than 50 men in the past few months, following complaints lodged at the railway helpline by women commuters.

On Tuesday, RPF personnel in Tambaram pulled up seven young men, all of them college students, who had boarded an electric train between Chengalpattu and Tambaram. One of the women commuters called the helpline following which the students were pulled up. They were allowed to go after paying a fine at the Railway Court in Egmore later in the day.
