The moon will darken slightly and not completely as only a very light shadow of the earth will fall on the moon surface.

Lunar eclipses occur when the moon moves into the shadow of the earth.

It takes place only on full moon days, when the moon is diametrically opposite to the position of the sun, as viewed from the earth, Mr. Iyamperumal added.
