L&T bags contract for a portion of CPRR

Larsen & Tubro Ltd. (Transportation Infrastructure Division) has bagged the contract to build a 12.8-km stretch of the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) Project from Punnapakkam to start of Tiruvallur bypass at NH 716, Chennai-Tirupati Highway.

The work will be undertaken on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode. The six-lane wide greenfield stretch with flexible pavement will have paved shoulders, two-lane wide service roads and pavements on either side of the 60-m wide way. This stretch is part of the 26-km Phase II of the project that will take off at Thatchur on the Chennai-Kolkata Highway and end where Tiruvallur bypass begins on the Chennai-Tirupati Highway.

Land acquisition was in progress and consultants had been appointed for resettlement and rehabilitation of the affected persons. The funding agencies for the project were the Asian Investment Bank and OPEC and the implementing agency is the Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation. The CPRR runs to a length of 162 km and starts at Ennore Port and ends at Poonjeri near Mamallapuram.
