‘Madras Week' programmes

The following programmes will be organised on Thursday as part of ‘Madras Week'.

The Department of Archaeology will host a talk on ‘Temple Inscriptions of Chennai City' by Pradeep Chakravarthy, who will also release a book with three monographs of temple towns in the State, at 4 p.m. at the Tamil Valarchi Valaagam auditorium on Halls Road, Egmore.

Former chairman of Murugappa Group M.V. Subbiah speaks at the valedictory of Madras Week celebrations at Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School at 4 p.m.

Post Master General (Chennai Central Region) M.S Ramanujam releases a special postal cover, at a function at Bhavan's Rajaji Vidyashram, Kilpauk Garden Road, at 4.05 p.m. The event is supported by the State Bank of India. An exhibition of old maps, photographs, cooks and coins on Madras on the theme ‘Prosperity of trade and commerce' will be inaugurated by industrialist Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti.

Roja Muthiah Research Library is hosting a speech by S. Theodore Baskaran on ‘ Irulil kanavulagam: Chennayin cinema arankukal ' at its premises in Taramani, at 4.30 p.m.

The Madras Book Club organises a talk on ‘The wonder that the snake is' by B. Vijayaraghavan at Hotel Taj Connemara at 4.30 p.m.

Shrilekha V., speaks on ‘Wildlife in and around Chennai' at Vannilla Children Place, R.A. Puram at 5 p.m. Chitra Madhavan speaks on ‘Temples of Chennai' at Studio Palazzo, 7. Seethamma Road, Alwarpet, at 6 p.m.

Sujatha Shankar will deliver the Chennai Heritage Lecture on ‘The old guard: The early 20th Century architectural firms of Madras' at the Madras Gymkhana Club at 6.30 p.m.

The World Storytelling Institute will have a presentation on ‘Storytelling by the Sea' and a documentary movie in Tamil ‘Places of Kannagi' at Nocchikkuppam community hall at 6.30 p.m.
