Three-day festival at Alliance Francaise from June 7 onwards

The city will host a three-day film festival showcasing the works of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) video and filmmakers from June 7.

Chennai Dost, a gay, lesbian and bisexual community-based organisation, is organising the event – ‘Chennai Rainbow Film Festival’, along with Alliance Francaise of Madras.

“Last year, we organised a Chennai Queer Film Festival. This year, we will be presenting awards as part of the programme. The fest will provide a platform to screen the works of established and emerging gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer video and filmmakers and others who portray the community in a positive light,” said Vikranth Prasanna, founder of Chennai Dost.

A panel discussion on the media’s portrayal of LGBT issues will also be held.

Awards will be given for best LGBT short films and documentaries on the final day of the festival. The event will conclude with the screening of feature-length film ‘Narthagi’ as well as a cultural performance.
