The Central government should bring out a legislation to help conserve heritage, said former Supreme Court judge S. Mohan. He was speaking at a function in which the REACH heritage awards — 2013 were presented on Saturday.
The awardees are — K.J. Sohan, former mayor of Corporation of Cochin, who is working towards preservation of heritage sites in Kerala; K.R.A. Narasiah, a retired marine engineer, who has written books on ancient marine trade and has been working towards preservation of heritage sites and G. Rajendran, who has started an e-travelogue on temples and highlighted their heritage value.
Speaking at the event after presenting the awards, Mr. Mohan said no other country has so much heritage as India. He said our culture was being ruined by the damaging of heritage sites.

“A library with pictures of our heritage sites should be set up,” he suggested.
Deborah Thiagarajan, founder president of Madras Craft Foundation and Dakshin Chitra, appreciated REACH Foundation’s role in preserving heritage sites. “Children should be sensitised to the beauty of our heritage,” she said.
