All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Friday urged the State government to consider the demands of the students of B.Sc. (Forestry) at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore that they be allotted quota in appointment of forest rangers.

In a statement here, Ms. Jayalalithaa alleged that instead of holding talks with the students to end their protests, the government had declared holiday for the college and forced the students to vacate hostels.

The students are also seeking preference in appointments in the National Bamboo Mission, Wasteland Development Scheme, Arasu Rubber Corporation Limited and Van Vigyan Kendra.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said the students had based their demand on the recommendations of the Chief Conservator of Forests, who had favoured 25 per cent quota for students of forestry.
