A daily wage labourer from Ariyalur district was thrashed by the residents of Kothaval Chavadi on Sunday after they mistook him for a child lifter.
Police said Shettu, 40, in an inebriated condition entered Subramanian Street and picked up a conversation with the children playing there. Residents attacked him. He was handed over to the Kothaval Chavadi police.
