Knowledge, wisdom and good conduct are essential: Rosaiah

It began as the Harijan Industrial School in Kodambakkam in 1933. Now know as Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya, the institution offers skill-based education including courses to become an electrician, carpentry and mechanical refrigeration.

It also runs a working women’s hostel for low and middle-income groups

At the 80 anniversary celebrations of Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya in T. Nagar on Monday, Governor K. Rosaiah praised the institution for developing courses that enabled students to acquire skills in their selected trade and also helped them find jobs.

The institution’s mission to eradicate untouchability and to guide the youth towards the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi was also appreciated. In his speech, he asked the youth to prepare a schedule and work accordingly to attain great heights.

Stating that education was the acquisition of knowledge, he said knowledge coupled with wisdom and compassion with a fine blend of good conduct and character would help one to come up in life.

The governor also released a souvenir and honoured long-standing associates and staff of the institution.
