DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Sunday condemned the sedition charges slapped against Tamil Nadu Tasmac Employees Union general secretary Dhanasekaran for advocating total prohibition.
In a statement, he wondered how the State government could slap sedition charges against someone while Article 47 of the Indian Constitution itself was insisting on prohibition.
“Now there is a debate on whether to retain or not sedition charges in the Indian Penal Code. But the State government is using to stifle freedom of expression,” he said.
