Launching an app aimed at ensuring safety of women in the city on Tuesday, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan said he was marching towards the people and was least bothered by the verbal attacks launched by Dravidian parties against him.

At the launch function held at Sri Sairam Engineering College, Mr. Haasan interacted with students on various issues concerning women’s safety in the wake several incidents of violence against women reported recently. The safety app named ‘Raudram’, is the brainchild of Sudha Reddy of Porur. The app allows one to store three contact numbers upon registration.

“If you sense any trouble, all you need to do is press the power button thrice within a minute. Once this is done, your emergency contacts, our call centre and the nearby police station will receive an instant alert. The alerts are generated via mobile net as well as SMS. The app also enables recording of audio and video footage of the situation and sends it. GPS tracking of the location is part of the comprehensive safety features that the app offers,” Ms. Reddy explained.
