Chennai likely to get light rain till Wednesday; will have a better chance of rainfall after November 12

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

This Deepavali, south Tamil Nadu may get more rain. While nearly 50% of the weather stations in southern parts may receive rainfall, only a few places in north Tamil Nadu are likely to get any, according to the Meteorological Department.

A low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal, off Sri Lanka and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean, may become well-marked by Tuesday and move west-northwestwards across Sri Lanka-Comorin area by Thursday. Met officials said this system too would favour south Tamil Nadu.

During the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, Coonoor in the Nilgiris district registered the highest volume of rainfall at 4 cm. Rainfall would increase from Wednesday over the State. Chennai is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky and light rain may occur in some areas till Wednesday.
