Residents of Anna Nagar, Shenoy Nagar and neighbouring areas want the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to introduce small bus services providing connectivity to these localities from new Metro Rail stations.

The underground stations along Second Avenue Main Road connect Tirumangalam junction, Anna Nagar roundtana, Shenoy Nagar and Tower Park.

Due to lack of last-mile connectivity, commuters from these areas who use these underground stations, which were inaugurated in 2017, are forced to rely on autorickshaws.

Metro Rail has introduced bicycles to help commuters travel from its stations to their workplace or home. However, the initiative is popular only among young commuters, especially college students. Others depend on other modes of transport to reach the stations or their houses.

“Small buses will help us reach the stations sooner. Many residents of Anna Nagar prefer Metro trains to MTC buses,” says S. Pandian, a resident of Shanti Colony, Anna Nagar.

At present, only a few small bus services — S53 (J.J. Nagar to Maduravoyal), S42 (Korattur to Maduravoyal), S54 (Ayapakkam to Ambattur Industrial Estate) and S55 (Ayanavaram to Aminjikarai) — are being operated in the neighbourhood, covering Ambattur, Padi, Mogappair, Tirumangalam, Anna Nagar and Aminjikarai.
