International shame for India: Subramanian Swamy

August 17, 2011 01:49 am | Updated November 17, 2021 03:37 am IST - Chennai:

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has criticised the arrest of civil activist Anna Hazare, saying it has “completely eroded India's unique selling proposition of being the world's largest democracy”.

In a statement here, he said the act had brought “international shame to India”.

He demanded the release of the social activist and also the withdrawal of “all draconian steps” by the Prime Minister, failing which he could be sued for “wilful subversion of the Constitution of India and causing grievous mental distress to the people of India by the illegal and reckless arrest of Mr. Hazare”.
