Infosys employees take the Metro Rail to office

Company buses ply from Alandur station to Mahindra City

In an effort to cut down the number of cars on roads and encourage use of public transport, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has joined hands with IT firm Infosys. As per the deal, employees of Infosys will now have office buses taking them from the Alandur metro station to their facility at Mahindra World City. Plans are on the anvil to offer this facility to Infosys employees who work out of the Sholinganallur office.

CMRL officials said the idea behind this initiative was to promote the use of public transportation. “In the coming weeks, Infosys employees in Sholinganallur can also avail this facility. They can take the train and reach a certain point, and from there the office buses will pick them to work,” a senior official further added.

On Friday, a handful of employees from various points in Chennai took the Metro till the Alandur station and boarded the office bus that was waiting for them. “This pattern will continue henceforth,” a source said.

‘Good plan’

An Infosys employee, who works out of the Mahindra World City office, on condition of anonymity, said: “I saw the notification very late so I could not take the Metro. But this plan seems good, considering the traffic in the city during prime hours in the morning.” “I live near Koyambedu, where the traffic is high and taking a train until Alandur makes sense,” he added.

Recently, Chennai Metro Rail struck a similar deal with DLF, Porur.

The employees take the Metro train till Alandur and then take a 14-seater van to the office.
